First Period Worcester Porcelain Kakiemon Vase & Cover Ex-Zorensky

SOLD

Code: FA1173

Dimensions:

H: 23cm (9.1")

An unusual and attractive Worcester porcelain vase and cover of baluster form decorated with three slim panels of underglaze blue ground reserving small daisy type flowers, edged in gilt with further gilt floral embellishment and gilt frames. These alternate with wider white reserved panels painted with oriental garden scenes in the "rich kakiemon" palette. This pattern is replicated on the cover with a ring of the standard underglaze pattern that forms one of the base components of the Queen's pattern sitting around the flower bud knop and also just above the foot. The neck is decorated with a diaper type pattern in red and gilt with small areas reserved and painted with oriental flowers. Underglaze blue fretted square mark to base, c.1770.

Provenance: Ex-Zorensky Collection, sticker inside cover, reference "Worcester Porcelain The Zorensky Collection" by Spero Cat. No. 306.

It measures 23cm (9") high and 9.5cm (3 3/4") wide.

Condition is very good: there is a very fine hairline in the glaze coming a short way off the rim and a very small and invisible area of professional stabilisation has been completed at the rim. Fine and invisible restoration (repair) to a small area of the cover edge. Minor frits to the edge of the petals. The blue ground has blurred during firing (necessitating the gilt edging of the flowers) and the square mark underneath is also very blurred.
