Chelsea Porcelain Kakiemon Damask'd Plate Coiled Phoenix c.1754

SOLD

Code: FA1037

A fine and very attractive Chelsea porcelain plate with fluting and shaped rim painted with a fine red-brown line. The surface has a "damask'd" moulded finish with what are known as "Gotzkowsky" flower moulding so named after a dinner service created by Meissen for a Berlin merchant of that name. Painted in the kakiemon palette of red, blue, turquoise and gilding, with a coiled phoenix in the centre and oriental floral patterns in the smaller non moulded panels around the outside. c.1752-1758, Albert Amor paper label to the base along with other faded paper labels.

Reference: Chelsea Porcelain by Adams, plate 85 for a similar example and pages 95-96.

It measures 24.2cm (9 1/2") wide and 3.2cm (1 1/4") high.

Condition is excellent with no damage or restoration and very minor handling wear, just fractionally to the brown line on the rim. There are a few small areas of fine kiln dust and some scattered gilt dots that have been dotted over tiny firing pits as well as a small area of enamel decoration below the top floral spray also to cover a small firing flaw.
