Large First Period Worcester Porcelain Mansfield Pattern Teapot c.1775

SOLD

Code: FA0991

Dimensions:

W: 14cm (5.5")H: 16cm (6.3")L: 22cm (8.7")

An unusually large Worcester porcelain teapot and cover painted in the Mansfield pattern c.1775. Globular shape with reeded handle, open crescent mark to base, the cover with a pointed knop.

It measures 16cm (6 1/4") high to the knop, 22cm (8 5/8") handle to spout and 14cm (5 1/2") wide.

Condition is very good with no damage or restoration, however there sadly is a firing fault which has resulted in a fine glaze hairline running partway around the body. It starts with the join of the spout and body, a firing line running over the top of the spout and down the left side (as you look at it). It then becomes much finer, glaze level only and continues down towards the bottom of the pattern and then curves to run around the body, under the handle and then a couple of inches further. There are also two short firing lines over the very top of the handle terminals as often seen. It is essentially invisible except on close inspection and displays perfectly. I would advise caution however if the intention is to use this piece. It will likely be fine but there is always more risk of filling with boiling water any piece of this age with firing lines, faults or other potential areas of weakness. Therefore we suggest this item is viewed as being for display.
