Rare Caughley Porcelain Salad Bowl Fisherman Pattern c.1785

SOLD

Code: FA0980

Dimensions:

W: 24cm (9.4")H: 5.5cm (2.2")

An unusual shallow hexagonal shaped porcelain salad bowl with shaped rim, made by Caughley and printed with the ever popular Fisherman pattern. Marked to the base with the impressed "Salopian" and also an underglaze blue S. c.1785-1790

Reference: Caughley & Worcester Porcelains 1775-1800 by Godden, pages 34 and 104 and plate 169. This bowl model is described by the author as being "of extreme rarity".

It measures 24cm (9 1/2) wide and 5.5cm (2 1/8") high.

Condition is good but there a couple of rim chips, one small, just to right of the top, and one a bit larger to the reverse. There is also a tiny fleabite further round. There is some surface scratching to the glaze inside from age and use but this doesn't impact the decoration and can only be seen when tilting the bowl around in the light to deliberately view it.
