Derby Porcelain The Pastoral Fountain Group N12 Figure

SOLD

Code: EA0642

Fabulous large early Derby figural group known as "The Fountain Group" or "The Pastoral Group", c.1772, depicting a shepherdess asleep under a Grecian style urn on pedestal, with her shepherd playing a pipe to her. A lamb and dog are at their feet and there is an array of flowers scattered about. A dolphin form fountain pours forth water into a pool where it then cascades in small waterfalls into a lower pool. Superb level of detail to the modelling, it requires careful review from all angles for full appreciation. Beautifully painted in enamels as you would expect and incised to the base N12 and G.

It measures 11 1/4" high, approx. 6" wide and 7 1/2" deep.

Condition is very good. There has been some small sections of high quality restoration/repair: the stepped middle section of the plinth has been restored as has the tip of her left foot. A repair to her right foot shows as a hairline across the ankle. Some small sections of repair/restoration to the fountain, the brim of his hat and to some of the bocage leaves. The only current damage I can find is a small chip to the lower corner of his coat and the loss of a few leaves. The above repairs have been done to a very fine standard and the piece displays beautifully, please see all the close up photos for the detail.
