18th Century French Faience Lille Pot Jacqueline

SOLD

Code: FA0168

Superb rare 18th century French faience pottery pitcher from Lille in the "Jacqueline" form with a pewter hinged pottery lid. A tin glazed lady sitting on a grass mound, with her feet out in front of a bonfire I understand in the story of the piece. A pale bluish grey glaze with distinctive decoration of the clothes and apron.

Blackened base with the number 5270 over-painted and the same also painted inside the head. Large strap handle with pewter fittings to the lid.

She measures 30.5cm (12") high, 14.5cm (5 3/4") wide and 28cm (11") deep.

Condition is very good for age: there are a few glaze losses and fritting and a few chips to the edge of the base. A small chip to the tip of the spout and the side of the rim under the lid. No restoration and the hinge is also fine.
