Pair Of Minton Figures Sitting Between Baskets Of Flowers Models 58

SOLD

Code: FA0195

Rare pair of Minton figures of a couple of flower sellers, seated with large woven baskets full of flowers on either side. They are known as "male"/"female sitting between baskets of flowers", model number 58*, c.1835-40.
Set on a scrolled base with apple green ground and gilding. Both the lady and gentleman are finely modelled and painted in bright enamels and each basket is filled with dozens of pretty flowers.

Marked to the base Green & Co. 10 & 11 St Paul's Churchyard, London for the china dealer Joseph Green.

*Referenced in Godden: Minton Pottery & Porcelain Of The First Period 1793-180, page 104, and photographed in Godden: Staffordshire Porcelain, page 140, plate 201.

They measure 20cm (8") by 10cm (4") wide and approx. 14cm (5 1/2") high.

Condition is good with some points to note; there has been some good restoration to both figure's right hand basket. The girl has a couple of fine hairlines to the base, a fine repair to the top of her right arm and she is missing the top of the flower she is holding. There has been some very good restoration to the neck and there is a small hairline visible underneath through the hole in the base which again is clearly not visible on display. There are some small losses to the flowers. Surface wear is light, there is a little crazing, enamels are lovely and bright.
