Edwardian Silver Baluster Wine Ewer Claret Jug

SOLD

Code: FA0520

A lovely large silver wine ewer in the Georgian style with plain baluster body with raised spout and lid, the rim with beaded border. Set on a round stepped pedestal foot with beaded detail and reeded step. Elegant raised strap handle in walnut with finely cast acanthus leaf terminals to contrast with the plain, elegant lines of the jug. The lid has a round knop for opening with the thumb and a domed groove to the spout with cut out at the front to allow pouring with the lid closed to keep the wine clean.

Hallmarked to the side and lid for London 1903, maker Thomas Dobson & Sons, and a further mark to the base for Dobson London.

It measures 10 3/8" (29cm) high, 5 3/4" (15cm) spout to handle and 4" (10cm) across the base. It weighs a substantial 738g/23.7ozt. It has an easy capacity with space of 1 litre / 1 3/4 pints.

Condition is excellent with no damage, dents or repairs. There is some light surface wear around the belly. The handle is firm and the lid closes well.
