Pretty Georgian Coalport Shanked Teapot & Stand C.1800

SOLD

Code: FA0567

Lovely early John Rose Coalport teapot with lid and stand, c.1800. Shanked body with waisted shape. Partial shaped fluting to the spout and fluted scrolled handle. The lid is stepped and shaped with a matching shanked band and finished with a shaped pagoda style knop. The oval stand has a flat base with shanked sides to match. Unusual lilac enamel in bands of opposing triangles with a central band of white diamonds with lilac flowers painted in the centres. Rich gilded highlights to these bands, and standalone gilded detail to the spout, handle and lid and some gilded floral sprays to the sides and stand.

Unmarked, similar teapots illustrated in Coalport 1795 - 1926 by Michael Messenger, page 69, plate 20 and Coalport & Colabrookedale Porcelains by Godden, plates 34 & 35.

The teapot measures 25cm (9 7/8") long, 12cm (4 3/4") wide and 16.5cm (6 1/2") high. The stand measures 16cm (6 1/4") long, 12.5cm (4 7/8") wide and 2.2cm (7/8") high.

Condition is very good: there is small shallow chip to the underside of the knop but no other damage or restoration. Minimal surface wear to the enamel or gilding, just fractionally on the tip of the spout. There are 2 firing faults inside the base of the teapot.
