Lovely 19th Century Ridgway Porcelain Cup & Saucer

SOLD

Code: FA0605

Very pretty coffee cup and saucer by Ridgway with shaped edges and moulded acanthus leaves to the bodies. Painted with a rich royal blue ground with shaped reserves framed with an apricot ground strapwork and scroll design with acanthus leave terminals edged with gold. The white reserves are beautifully painted in bright enamels with fancy birds in branches and exotic butterflies. The cup has a split handle with a double ivy leaf moulded thumb rest and leaf terminals and the inside is decorated around the rim and inside the base with gilded detail as is the well of the saucer.

Marked to the bases with pattern number 5/2417, c.1859.

The cup measures 7cm (2 ¾”) high, 7.5cm (2 7/8”) rim to rim and 9cm (3 5/8”) rim to handle. The saucer measures 14cm (5 ½”) wide and 2cm (3/4”) high.

Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. A little rubbing to the gilding in places, mainly where the cup sits in the saucer. Surface wear otherwise is very light, the enamels are lovely and bright.
