First Period Worcester Porcelain Double Handled Sauceboat C.1755

SOLD

Code: FA0828

Very nice early Worcester porcelain sauceboat of double lipped and two-handled form with moulded panels and fluted spouts. Decorated in a style known as "smoky primitives", early transfer prints, the precursors the the higher quality printing used at Worcester from 1756/7 onwards. The exterior has 4 different warships in panels amongst the moulding, and the interior has a detailed river scene with swans, ducks and herons with overhanging trees on the river banks.

A sauceboat of same design and pattern formed part of the Zorensky collection, plate 485 in Spero & Sandon.

It measures 18.7cm (7 3/8") long, 16.5cm (6 1/2") wide and 8.5cm (3 3/8") high.

Condition is very good. There has been an invisible repair (and associated restoration to the surface) to the lower part of one handle and again to the area of the rim where it joins. This can only be detected with careful viewing under well lit magnification. Very light surface wear throughout.
