SOLD

Code: FA0535

Dimensions:

W: 14cm (5.5")H: 14cm (5.5")L: 25.5cm (10")

Early 19th century teapot, cover and stand in the New Oval Porcelain shape attributed to Miles Mason. Decorated with a frieze of stylised flowers and foliage in black and white on an orange ground. Black border around the edge of the handle, below the frieze on the body and stand and above the frize ov the cover and a black painted acanthis leaf up the back of the handle. Gilded rim to the pot, stand and cover, gilded knop, bands around the base and neck and a gilded floral pattern up the front of the spout.

Unmarked, please see An Anthology Of British Teapots by Miller and Berthould, plate 1254 for a similar teapot. The pattern interestingly appears the same in design to the Spode pattern 878/893.

The pot measures 10" (25.5cm) long, 5 1/2" (14cm) and 5 3/4" (14.5cm) high. The stand is 7" (18cm) by 5 7/8" (15cm).

Condition is good with a few points to note; this is a display piece only as there has been some good quality restoration to the end of the spout and also to a small section of the rim of the lid. The teapot has 2 star hairlines on either side of the spout and the lid has 3 small chips to the inner flange. Light surface wear to the enamels and gilding; a tiny glaze loss to the rim of the cover and some light crazing in the glaze to the lower half of the pot.
