First Period Worcester Plain Queen's Pattern Cup & Saucer

SOLD

Code: FA0323

First period Worcester coffee cup and saucer in a pretty and unusual pattern of 3 alternating wrythen panels with blue fret mark, c.1770. The panels are comprised of a beep blue ground with white scrolls and dots, a red ground band with white chrysanthemum flowers and a white band with red diapering. A red cross-hatched on white pattern finishes the rims. Referenced in "Coloured Worcester Porcelain Of The first Period" by Marshall, plate 9, item 149, and described as "probably 'plain Queen's pattern'".

The cup measures 7cm (2 3/4") high, 6.5cm (2 5/8") rim to rim and 9.5cm (3 3/4") rim to handle. The saucer measures 13.5cm (5 1/4") wide and 2.5cm (1") high.

Condition is good but with a few minor points; there are 3 short hairlines to the cup rim and small rim chip by the handle (overpainted). A couple of really tiny fleabites to the underside of the saucer rim. Surface wear is very light and appropriate for age and use.
