An attractive early Coalport chocolate cup with stylish side handles with acanthus leaf moulded lower terminals. Decorated in the popular Japan influenced "Nelson" imari pattern. Unmarked, c.1810.
It measures 6.8cm (2 11/16") high and 7.5cm (1 7/8") rim to rim.
In good condition; there is an underglaze firing fault near the rim that was rather crudely touched in during manufacture but there is a very small area of the actual rim above it that has been filled so the fault likely caused a weakness that chipped slightly at some point. Minimally detracting it can't be seen unless the area is examined. No other issues and minor handling wear mainly just to the gilt in places on the handles and the rim.
