Coalport Porcelain Fancy Birds Coffee Cup & Saucer (A/F) c.1810

Coalport Porcelain Fancy Birds Coffee Cup & Saucer (A/F) c.1810

Code: FA1512

SOLD

A very pretty Regency Coalport London shape coffee cup and saucer with a mazarine blue ground with vase and mirror shape reserves, the latter painted with Chelsea type "fancy" birds in bright colours against landscapes of red brown earth and blue-green shrubs. The smaller reserves are painted with bugs and butterflies, all with ornate gilt frames and gilt decoration over the blue ground and the centre of the saucer replicated as a frieze inside the rim of the cup. Unmarked, c.1825.

The cup measures 6.6cm (to the rim) and 7.4cm rim to rim. The saucer measures 14.1cm wide.

The saucer has been broken in half and repaired but so tightly it is almost invisible on the front. The cup has a nick to the edge of the rim and some surface wear to the top of the rim. Handling wear otherwise is very minor. The set displays beautifully and can also be used with care taken to the saucer and cleaning.
