Very nice and fine quality Georgian silver snuff box with all over ribbed decoration. Lovely shape with curved sides makes this a very tactile piece. The lid has an invisible hinge and pretty detailed shape to the opening lip. Inside retains the original giltwash.
Hallmarked on the flange inside the lid at the front which is where there has been a bit of understandable wear from opening and closing over the years but the marks are still pretty good and date for London 1810 and initials for the maker John Shekleton.
It measures 2 3/4" (7cm) long, 1 3/4" (4.5) wide and 3/4" (2cm) deep. It weighs 53g/1.7ozt.
Condition is excellent with no damage or repairs and minimal surface wear; it has clearly been very little used. The ribbing is lovely and crisp and as I said the hallmarks are still surprisingly legible given their location.
