Code: EA0790
Superb early Victorian silver cigar box by Thomas Diller. Lovely clean lines but with a very elegant curved shaped to top and bottom (I hope you can appreciate it from the photos) with a full length hinge and kicked lip to the lid. Far from the usual plain squared box, the curved lines could be Edwardian or classic art deco and very tactile. A very good quality box with a gilt interior rather than the usual wood, marked inside top and bottom.
Hallmarked for London 1840.
It measures 5 3/4" long, 3 3/4" wide and 1 1/4" deep. It weighs a substantial 296g/9.5ozt.
Condition is excellent with no damage or dents and very light surface wear for age and use, a little more as expected on the lower surface. The gilding is also very good.
