The lid is quite plain but with bevelled edges and just some simple bright cut engraved bands around the edges and blank in the centre with no engravings. The sides and base, also with bevelled edges, are strikingly cast with a series of ribbed bands giving a very modern look and the upper and lower edges trimmed with scrolled and floral decoration. A fine concealed hinge and the inside is fully gilded.

Hallmarked for Birmingham 1840.

It measures 3 1/4" by 2 1/8" wide and 7/8" deep and weighs 111g/3.6ozt.

Condition is very good; there is some wear to the shallow engraving on the lid but otherwise all surface and decoration as nice and crisp. It closely fully flush and the gilt wash is also fine with little wear.
