SOLD

An attractive Meissen porcelain cabinet plate with large circular reserve, very well painted in an Old Master style of a band of military horsemen taking a rest standing in a French or Italianate landscape of neoclassical architecture and cyprus trees. The white edge is ornately painted in gilt with a gilt shaped rim. Underglaze blue crossed swords, scratched through to denote factory second porcelain and impressed number 45, c.1860.

It measures 24.7cm (9 3/4") wide and 3.5cm (1 3/8") high.

In excellent condition with no damage or repair and minimal handling wear just to the odd line on the gilt border. The enamel scene is excellent with no scratches or discernible sign of wear. There is a very tiny firing fault at the bottom of the plate inside the rim that had been gilded over, probably the reason for "seconds" status.
