Charming and unusually large 18th century egg shape silver nutmeg grater, c.1775. Threaded lid opens to reveal pull out steel grater.
Marked inside to the lid with the initials for Samuel Meriton which is usual for this maker and period. Monogrammed to the lid.
It measures 2" long by 1 1/4" wide and weighs 28 grams.
Condition is very good; there are a few very light and shallow dints only. Light surface wear, the thread is good and smooth, the grater is a bit stiff to get out but does come with a little encouragement.
