Very nice Edwardian sterling silver replica of one of the famous bronze age gold Vapheio cups found in the beehive tomb at the ancient site of Vapheio in Greece, believed to be a Mycenian-Minoan collaboration but subject still to much speculation amongst archeologists.
This a lovely example of the cup depicting "Taming Wild Bulls" and looks to be a very accurate depiction of the original.
Hallmarked for Chester 1909 maker's initials for George Nathan & Ridley Hayes.
It measures 7cm high, 9cm wide and 14cm rim to handle and weighs 273g/8.8ozt.
Condition is very good with no damage and just light surface marks appropriate for age. The cast detail is lovely and clear all over as are the hallmarks.
