19th Century French Mother Of Pearl & Ormolu Egg Sewing Necessaire

19th Century French Mother Of Pearl & Ormolu Egg Sewing Necessaire

Code: FA0127

SOLD

Very pretty 19th century French mother of pearl egg shaped sewing necessaire with gilt metal mounts and set on a flower shaped fluted pedestal foot on alabaster base. Possibly Palais Royal, c. 1875, clearly a lovely quality piece. The spring push mechanism, surmounted by a flying bird, pops opens the egg to reveal an engraved gilt metal disc with fittings for a thimble, scissors, awl and needle case. The scissors and awl are still with the piece and an associated gilt metal tapestry needle. The other pieces are sadly missing but the case could clearly be filled with your own pieces.

It measures 12cm high and 6 1/2cm wide.

Condition is very good with just light surface wear from age and use. Remnants of a pink fabric under the thimble holder.
