Victorian Silver Easel Back Dressing Table Mirror Henry Matthews

Victorian Silver Easel Back Dressing Table Mirror Henry Matthews

Code: FA0344

SOLD

Fabulous antique easel backed silver dressing table mirror fitted on a blue velvet backing. Rectangular bevelled shape for the silver with beaded borders at the edge and framing the bevelled glass with fine embossed and pierced decoration of art nouveau style with scrolls, arabesques, leaves and flowers trailing over a geometric rope twist cross-cross frame. An ornate framed cartouche at the top is unengraved.

Hallmarked for Birmingham 1898 and makers initials for Henry Matthews.

It measures 30cm/12" by 24cm/9 1/2" and 4cm/1 1/2" deep.

Condition is very good; there is no damage or loss to the silver I can see but some light surface wear and tarnish as to be expected. There is a slight indent to the edge of the frame where a pin has been hammered in a little vigorously. The glass is in excellent order and probably a replacement which would tie in with the re-pinning of the frame. The velvet is worn but still a lovely colour; this can be replaced if you wished.
