A beautifully engraved Victorian silver card case epitomising the strong Japanese influence so popular during the aesthetic movement period. The front has a set of geometric panels; a circle in the bottom corner with some cranes circling to land on a lake and a rectangular section above with a butterfly above a lily. A sprays of flowers sits in the bottom right corner and a triangular section in the top right has been carefully worked to create a pyramidal illusion. The reverse is smothered with small birds darting around a forest of bamboo stems. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1880, makers Deakin & Nephew (Charles Deakin & Stephen Deakin).

It measures 9.8cm (3 7/8") high by 6.7cm (2 5/8") wide and weighs 77g / 2.5ozt.
