Edwardian Art Nouveau Silver Mounted Jewellery / Sewing Box

Edwardian Art Nouveau Silver Mounted Jewellery / Sewing Box

Code: FA1564

SOLD

A pretty Edwardian red leather dressing table box with hinged lid mounted with a  silver panel embossed in a classic art nouveau style with a nightingale and a lark nestled amongst blossom flowers. Cotton lining inside with a soft padded cushion to the underside of the lid this was probably designed to house sewing bits and bobs but is a perfect size to use as a trinket or jewellery box.

The silver is hallmarked for Birmingham 1905, makers J. Aitken & Son. and with a registered design number Rd. No. 417544.

It measures 11.7cm (4 5/8") wide by 5.2cm (2") deep and 3.7cm (1 1/2") high.

In very good condition: the silver has been re-mounted and there is a small tear at the bottom edge and a couple of very minor dings. The marks are all clear and the embossed detail still sharp. The leather is in very good condition and only minor signs of age inside also.
