A very fine Worcester porcelain chocolate cup and saucer painted in the "Scarlet Japan" pattern with bright orange panels reserving white 'mons', edged in gilt and with an overall gilt diaper pattern. Alternating with panels of prunus branches and flowers stylistically painted in the kakiemon palette with gilt accents. The cup and deep saucer of ogee shape with shaped gilt rims and scrolled side handles. Unmarked. c.1770-1775.
The cup measures 7.2cm (2 7/8") high, 10cm (3 15/16") rim to rim 14cm (5 1/2") across the handles. The saucer measures 14.5cm (5 3/4") wide and 4.7cm (1 7/8") high.
Condition is excellent with no damage or restoration. Minor handling wear, mainly just some rubbing to the gilt in places.
