First Period Worcester Giles Decorated Celeste Bleu Cup & Saucer Trio

First Period Worcester Giles Decorated Celeste Bleu Cup & Saucer Trio

Code: FA0446

SOLD

Very pretty early Worcester trio decorated in the atelier of James Giles, c.1768, in a solid celeste bleu ground with gilded rims and stripes down the handles. Meissen style crossed swords and number "6" mark to tea cup and saucer.

The tea cup measures 10cm (4") rim to handle, 8.3cm (3 1/4") rim to rim and 5cm (2") high. The coffee cup measures 8.3cm (3 1/4") rim to handle, 5.7cm (2 1/4") rim to rim and 9.2cm (3 5/8") high. The saucer is 13.3cm (5 1/4") wide and 3cm (1 1/8") high.

Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. There is a flake loss of gilding on the rim of the tea cup. Surface wear otherwise is very light. There is a thin section of glaze below the rim of the coffee cup which shows a bubbling fault from firing and a few other small marks below this area which also appear linked to the firing.
