First Period Worcester Porcelain Tea Canister Ex-Zorensky

First Period Worcester Porcelain Tea Canister Ex-Zorensky

Code: FA1117

Dimensions:

H: 16cm (6.3")

SOLD

An unusual Worcester tea canister and cover decorated simply in painted underglaze blue. Plain, smooth body and with moulded flower bud and leaf knop to the cover. It is noted in the reference on the Zorensky collection below that tea canisters were not usually supplied with blue and white tea services and so are much rarer than enamelled or overglaze printed versions. Open crescent mark to the base and the Zorensky collection label inside the neck. c.1770-1775

Reference: illustrated in "Worcester Porcelain 1751-1790, The Zorensky Collection" by Simon Spero & John Sandon, Cat. No. 611, page 451.

It measures 16cm (6 1/4") high and 7.5cm (3") wide.

Condition is good; there is some restoration visible inside the neck. Probably a repaired chip but outside even the presence of work is all but invisible even under high magnification and certainly can't be identified with the naked eye. I think the view on the inside just can't have been fully finished. A couple of really tiny nibbles to a petal on the knop but no other issues.
