18th Century Staffordshire Bilston Enamel Floral Snuff Box

18th Century Staffordshire Bilston Enamel Floral Snuff Box

Code: FA0636

SOLD

Very pretty round South Staffordshire enamel snuff or pill box with a waisted base in white enamel painted with 3 floral sprays of rose, buttercups and sweet peas in shades of pink, blue and yellow. The hinged lid is decorated with a rich puce pink enamel edge with large floral spray of the same flowers and highlighted around the edge with raised white enamel arabesques and dots.

It measures 5.7cm (2 1/4") wide allowing for the brass mount, 5.2cm (2") across the base, and 2.5cm (1") high.

Condition is good with a few small points to note: there is some cracking to the enamel, mainly to the edges of the lid and a few fainter lines in a couple of areas of the base. There has also been a couple of small areas of touching up of the enamel, to the lid to the left of the leaves and in a couple of spots at the edge of the base where it would have experienced some wear. This has all been sympathetically done. The mount has been re-attached to the base.
