Stunning ornate English silver gilt cup and cover after the 17th/18th century pineapple cups of Nuremberg. Reverse pear shape with lobed foot, body and lid with embossed and engraved decoration throughout. Masked creatures form the pedestal stem and a fancy knop finishes the lid. Fully gilded inside.
Hallmarked for London, makers Daniel & Charles Houle, the cup is dated for 1860 but the lid is later dated 1874.
It measures 10 1/4" high and 4 1/2" wide and weighs 565g/18.2ozt.
Condition is excellent with no damage, just a couple of tiny dints. The external gilt wash has faded in places, but fresh inside. The lid whilst later matched fits well.
