An attractive Liverpool porcelain fluted coffee cup with a fluted strap handle and scalloped rim, c.1770. Bright enamel floral sprays in yellow, green, puce, orange, turquoise and purple blue below an underglaze blue scalloped border with rather scruffy stylized gilt decoration. An iron red double scalloped border inside the rim.
It measures 6.4cm (2 1/2") high and 6.2cm (2 7/16") rim to rim.
Condition is very good: there are 2 small chips on the inside edge of the foot rim and 2 other underglaze nicks from manufacture. Other manufacturing imperfections are a scratch across the flutes just above the foot to the right of the handle and a small darkened piece of erroneous clay to the handle. Minimal handling wear; enamels and gilding are all good.
