Derby Porcelain Coffee Can London Handle, C.1815

Derby Porcelain Coffee Can London Handle, C.1815

Code: FA0734

SOLD

A pretty Derby porcelain coffee can with a London (or Grecian) shape handle rarely used on coffee cans. Painted in bright enamels a wavy line in black or dark brown, dotted with small red flowers and leaves and punctuated with a larger blue and red cornflower sprig from which large gilded feathery leaves burst into the spaces above and below the wave. Gilded bands below the rim inside and out, around the base and up the handle.

Red mark, c.1815.

It measures 6.5cm (2 5/8") high, 6.5cm (2 5/8") rim to rim and 8.5cm (3 3/8") rim to handle.

Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. There is a little handling wear to the gilded fronds on the side to the right of the handle and to the gold stripe down the handle. The enamels are bright. There is a little crazing up the edge of the handle which is common for these shapes and a very small amount of associated discoloration.
