Fabulous 19th century Edme Samson copy of an 18th century Chelsea figure group of young lovers against a bocage backdrop. The figures are really beautifully modelled and painted in face, hair and costume, one of the best quality pieces I've seen. The pair are sitting under a tree with a hunting dog scratching its ear, and the day's catch of a rabbit and pheasant. The back has the Chelsea style gold anchor mark.
It measures 8 1/4" high, 7" wide and 6" deep.
Condition is very good: just the usual few losses to the bocage.
