Lovely ornate figural sweetmeat basket/comport by Carl Thieme at Potschappel dating from 1888-1902. Set on a wide rococo scrolled and pierced base with pierced and gilded decoration and picked out with pale pink and blue enamels and gilding. Standing atop is a young gentleman standing in front of a multi branched tree smothered in leaves, flowers and fruit and decorated all around. Mounted with a pretty pierced basket encrusted with flowers and leaves outside and painted inside and out with pale blue and pink enamels and dotted with butterflies inside. Beautifully modelled and decorated in bright enamels.
Marked to the base.
It measures 26.5cm (10 3/8") high, and 18cm 7" by 16.5cm (6 1/2") wide and the bowl is 15cm (6") across.
Condition is very good: there is a small chip at the very top of the column just below the bowl which cannot be seen from usual angles and a couple of fine and stable hairlines to the main stem from the bolt and another across the left branch. The left hand has had an invisible professional repair at the wrist. A little crazing and a few minor chips to the bocage.
