A very fine and large Chelsea red anchor period porcelain basket of oval shape with pierced walls and scalloped rim raised fluted  handles decorated with a moulded and enamelled criss-cross ribbon effect in puce. The outside walls have grooved detailing and small applies daisy flowers as each 'intersection' in turquoise, yellow and red enamel. Surrounding the handle terminals are a complex and extensive arrangement of applied split petalled flowers and flower buds in puce and yellow, and green enamelled leaves. The centre of the basket is finely painted with sprays of garden flowers  and the rim painted in dark brown enamel. Red anchor mark to the base, c.1755-1758.

Provenance: Collection of Sir Phillip Sassoon & Collection of Abby Rockefeller Mauzé. This is the first of two near identical baskets owned as a pair with the same provenance.

It measures 28cm (11) long, 22cm (8 5/8") wide and 11.5cm (4 1/2") high. 

Condition is excellent. One handle has been invisibly repaired at the base (only detectable under illuminated high magnification). No damage or other repairs / restoration bar very minimal nibbles to some of the petal and leaf edges. Minor surface wear inside.
