Bow Porcelain Allegorical Figure Of Summer (Seated Rustic Seasons)

Bow Porcelain Allegorical Figure Of Summer (Seated Rustic Seasons)

Code: FA1343

SOLD

A fine Bow porcelain figure of Summer from The Seated Rustic Seasons series, portrayed as a young woman in wide brimmed hat and peasant type dress, sitting on a large pile of harvested wheat holding a sheaf against her lap and proffering a smaller handful of corn. Painted in bright enamels and gilding. Set on a high scrolled base with applied flowers. A triangular aperture to the reverse to allow the option of a candle fitting. Anchor and dagger mark to the base, c.1765.

Reference: entry C27 in Bow Porcelain Figures, Bradshaw, plate 208.

It measures 16.5cm (6 1/2") high and 10.7cm (4 1/4") wide by 10.5cm (4 1/8") deep.

In very good condition: there has been a repair to the small bundle of corn beside her wrist and some professional restoration to the actual ears and similar to some of the ear tips on the larger sheaf. One ear tip is chipped and some chips to the flower petals on the base. Also some restoration to the shaped loop at the front of the base. No issue with the figure herself and minimal handling wear.
