Delightful unusual Victorian George Jones strawberry serving set comprising tray formed as a basket with handle, 2 creamers and a spoon. Using an earlier majolica era shape with an ivory glaze and ruffled fluting, and then with applied moulded strawberry fruits, leaves and flowers along with painted strawberry plants to the tray.
Impressed mark to the back and model number 8196.
Strawberry sets remained popular into the 1880s and George Jones recreated many of their majolica era shapes in this ivory glaze during this time.
The tray measures 38cm (15") by 24cm (9 1/2") wide and 15.2cm (6") high. The creamers are 12cm (4 3/4") by 9cm (3 1/2") and 12cm (3 3/4") high and the spoon is 19cm (7 1/2") long.
Condition is very good; there has been some fine quality restoration to one side of the tray, please see the final photos, no other damage or repairs and just a few small paint flake losses to the enamels.
