An unusual and rare 18th century Derby porcelain soup plate, c.1780, printed in a blue and white Chinese inspired pattern with brown enamelled rim.
Unmarked; a similar plate formed a part of the Bernard Watney collection, lot 387 in the Phillips sale of 1999, and another illustrated in Ceramics Of Derbyshire 1750-1975 by Bradley, plate 215.
It measures 22cm (8 1/2") wide and 3.5cm (1 3/8") high.
Condition is excellent with no damage or restoration. Minimal surface wear, the enamel to the edge is fine. There has been some smudging of the pattern in places during firing, mainly to the border around the edge.
